California Digital Newspaper Collection

The California Digital Newspaper Collection is a growing repository of historical California newspapers published from 1846-present, including the first California newspaper, the Californian, and the first daily California newspaper, the Daily Alta California. It also contains issues of current California newspapers, collected as PDFs, that are part of a project to preserve and provide access to contemporary papers. This collection contains 1,254,341 issues comprising 16,936,173 pages and 52,421,347 articles. Library of Congress Chronicling America

Chronicling America provides access to information about historic newspapers and select digitized newspaper pages, and is produced by the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP). NDNP, a partnership between the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Library of Congress (LC), is a long-term effort to develop an Internet-based, searchable database of U.S. newspapers with descriptive information and select digitization of historic pages. Independent Voices Alternative Press

Independent Voices is an open access digital collection of alternative press newspapers, magazines and journals, drawn from the special collections of participating libraries. These periodicals were produced by feminists, dissident GIs, campus radicals, Native Americans, anti-war activists, Black Power advocates, Hispanics, LGBT activists, the extreme right-wing press and alternative literary magazines during the latter half of the 20th century.

Historical German Newspapers Online

The newspaper information system ZEFYS is a portal for free access to historical newspapers (with publication dates up to Ca. 1945) which have been digitized by Berlin State Library. Title list.

Though Google’s newspaper archive project was discontinued, the historical newspapers that were previously digitized remain. Title list.

The newspapers in this Internet Archive collection have been scanned from microfilm and microfiche as part of a pilot project.
