Anatomy and Art Research Guide

Introduction

This research guide accompanies the Getty Research Institute exhibition Flesh and Bones: The Art of Anatomy (February 22 – July 10, 2022) and contains select bibliographies of primary and secondary sources related to:

  • Books, articles, exhibition catalogs, and online exhibitions focusing on anatomy and art.
  • Illustrated anatomy books, mainly European, published in the 16th to 19th centuries used by medical practitioners and artists.
  • Printed drawing manuals which give examples of the human figure along with numerous other subjects.
