The Special Collections Reading Room is small. Seating is very limited. The number of seats is reduced depending on the size of material that researchers need to consult, staffing, and the evolving nature of COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines.
Appointment priority is given to Getty staff, Getty residential scholars, and deferred 2020/2021 Getty Library Research Grant Recipients.
We do not maintain a waitlist.
Special Collections Reading Room hours are Monday - Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Renewals are subject to approval and can take place on or after the expiration date on a Stack or Extended Reader badge.
All Readers remain in our system. When a renewal is approved, we can process renewals beyond the expiration date on a Reader badge.
Due to high demand and limited staff, we cannot accommodate renewal requests to be eligible for parking validation only.

The Getty Library requires all Readers to be fully vaccinated with a WHO-approved COVID vaccine by the date of their appointment.
Two weeks must pass after the second dose of a 2-dose series or a single-dose vaccine.
We require proof of full vaccinations, and urge booster shots.
You must show your government-issued photo ID with your paper vaccination card, digital vaccination record, or a photograph of your vaccination card.
Vaccination verification is a 2-step process:
* Once you receive the stickers on your Reader badge and verify them at the Reference Desk, you will not need to do these steps again, unless you receive a new Reader badge or forgot your Reader badge. At T1 the main entrance, you will show your Reader badge with stickers to the staff member or security officer to proceed directly to the tram.
